The project is a deep renovation and renewal of three residential buildings in the heart of Pétange. The work scrupulously respects the original geometry and heights of the buildings while adapting the interiors to today’s standards of comfort, functionality and energy performance.
The programme comprises 12 homes of varied typologies, from studios to duplexes, with floor areas between 52 m² and 143 m². The homes are designed to offer generous living spaces. Each unit has a private outdoor space in the form of a balcony, loggia or terrace. To preserve the heritage character of the buildings, however, no balcony or loggia is provided on the street side.
The façades are carefully reproduced to restore the charm and elegance of the historic architecture, with particular attention to details, materials and finishes. Renders in warm tones inspired by historic treatments are paired with natural stone surrounds. One of the three buildings stands out for its especially rich decorative elements, whose conservation is an essential part of the project.
The choice of a rectangular natural slate roof gives the ensemble a restrained, contemporary expression while integrating harmoniously into the existing built context.
Through this renovation, the project tells a story, that of a memory respected and lastingly enhanced, bringing together the memory of the place, residential quality and urban integration.
